Progress update: Everything is proceeding as planned. Here are some sneak peaks and new content:
Second Tyrant: The Carrion Emperor
When you generate your wavecrawl setting with Wind Wraith, you will roll on a 'Tyrant Table'. This result will drop one of nine tyrant dictators into a throne, ruling over a cluster of islands. This tyrant will dictate trade and each will come with a different economic policy, mini legal system, fortress and army. The tyrant's realm is restricted to one area of the ocean that they have means to control. Stay tuned for more info and the other six tyrants to be revealed. The first tyrant revealed was 'The Static Empress':
The Nine Seas
As well as 9 possible Tyrants, Wind Wraith will feature 9 types of seas. More information on these in future updates. The seas are clustered together and separated by paper thin magical boundaries despite their extreme variation in climate and conditions. After generating your setting map with one to nine types of seas, sprinkle more complexity between these locations with underwater currents, trade networks and ancient portal rafts to link disparate locations:
Moving locations:
Another table will include roaming locations that will move around your map such as the Capillary City on the back of this necrotic whale:
Necrotic sea creature 'Kêtoskrill' with parasitic Capillary City growing out of its back: Densely populated, this city originally existed in a symbiotic relationship with the Kêtoskrill. But eventually growing concerns over the host's death lead the Artemia population to perform sequences of increasingly complex and time consuming rituals to prolong its life. After intentionally swimming itself into dangerous waters, the Artemia bored a connection to the creature's brain and eye socket, those involved in controlling navigation ascended as a higher class in Artemia society swore an oath to keep the city in safe sections of the seas. Division of labour rapidly increased, as the Kêtoskrill's constant process of entropy hastened. Artemia with their short life cycles have just enough time to obtain the skills to repair a specific part of the the creature's decaying form after which they must frantically educate those under them before working themselves to death. The city never sleeps, an endless conveyor belt of shift work. Increasingly inward looking, the city adopted autarky and faded from the memory of those they used to trade with. In addition to the all consuming repair work, an ideological infection has been spreading which must be tightly controlled through ever increasing surveillance and repression. The infection started with an Artemia claiming to be a prophet in psychic communication with the Kêtoskrill, saying the creature has wanted to die for many generations now - which sparked an underground separatist saboteur movement. They believe if they can convince even 3% of the population to disrupt repairs, it would lead to unavoidable cascading failures. Deep in the vaults of the Navigation Palace lies an ancient treasure from before the world flooded. It collects silt. The treasure keepers were disbanded to bolster the workforce years ago.
